Meet the artists, visit their workshops and studios and even try your hand at creating your own glass beads or ceramics. Basing yourself at Bay Crest Motor Lodge is a brilliant way to explore Nelson's creative essence. As well as being handy to access the wider region, it's a stone's throw from the amazing World of Wearable Art (see below) and a two minute drive into the city.

If you are interested in your contemporary art and are heading north of the country to the Hawkes Bay, be sure to check out Parlour Projects, an art gallery in Hastings that features works and exhibitions from some of New Zealand's leading contemporary artists.
